A Burmese classic, always on TV during Thingyan time, or the water festival associated with Buddhist New Year. The movie is set in Mandalay, and features the musical parades and water splashing associated with the holiday.
The plot of the story centers on Nyein Maung (Nay Aung), an accomplished but poor piano player and composer. He refuses to write pop songs because he is a committed artist. He falls in love with Khin Khin Ta (Khin Than Nu) the only daughter of a rich and powerful family. Through a bad coincidence and misunderstanding, their plans to elope backfire, and each ends up in a different relationship, each having one child. Further tragedy strikes: Nyein Maung ends up a widower and turns to alcohol to sooth his sorrow while his musical skills diminish. Decades later, when Thingyan Padauk flowers are out, romance blossoms between Nyein Maung's son and Khin Khin Ta's daughter, will their star-crossed parents learn to forgive and allow their children to find happiness in love?
