Искала тут в Стиме, во что поиграть, и вспомнила великолепную «Sally Face», которую прошла несколько месяцев назад. Открываю страницу, чтобы посмотреть похожие игры, а там:

Похоже, не только мне понравилось.

А дальше открываю интернеты:

Slap my ass and call me Susie!

И внезапно:

Оказывается, есть такая сленговая форма удивления: [verb] my [body part] and call me [noun or proper noun]. А дальше что хочешь, то и подставляй, лишь бы весело было.

He runs over to them.

Randal. What the hell are you doing?

Randal. No! I’m asking you: The guy on the right. Is he Robin Freeboys?

Sam. No, he’s just standing there.

Randal. No, I mean is his name Robin Freeboys?

Sam. Oh I see what you mean! No that’s his nephew Roger.

Randal. Roger Freeboys?

Sam. Shouldn’t I take them out for dinner first?

P.S. From c. 1650 to c. 1870, Roger was slang for the word “penis”, possibly due to the origin of the name involving fame with a spear. Subsequently, “to roger” became a slang verb form meaning “to have sex with”, “to penetrate”.

Roger that уже никогда не будет прежним.

На следующей странице оказалось, что босс Уоррена от него ушёл не далеко:

Warren exits. Freeboys comes back in and passes Robber 1 with the papers and takes his coffee mug off of the top of the pile.

Freeboys. Stop lollygagging, Warren.

Robber 1. No you don’t understand this is a hold-up!

Freeboys. You’re damn right it’s a hold-up, how long does it take to pin up a couple of staff rotas?

Про «lollygag» не знает ни один этимологический словарь, но догадываюсь, что вместо работы Уоррен пинал леденцы. А может, целовался с бомбами.

А вот «hold-up» — это одновременно вооруженное ограбление и задержка в работе. Разницы никакой, и грабитель сразу понял, что настаивать не стоит:

Freeboys. Now, Warren, there’s a lot of cash in my office, I want you to go upstairs and remove it. And look after that key, I’m not supposed to give it out to anyone else.

Robber 1. Yes, sir. [...]

Robber 1 exits up to Freeboys’ office. He opens the window revealing Robber 2 up a ladder and begins passing him bags of cash out of the window. Caprice (a pretty Southern American woman in her mid-twenties) walks into the bank and over to Freeboys.

Caprice. Papa!

Freeboys. Not today, Caprice, I’m busy. [...] I got the bureau arriving any minute. If I’m not concentrating everything could wind up going straight out the window.

Robber 1 finishes taking the bags of cash and climbs out the window.

Чтобы банку доверили тот самый бриллиант, полиция должна убедиться в полной безопасности. И пока грабители выносят деньги в окно, Фрибойз очень переживает, как бы все его надежды не вылетели туда же. А на русском «go out the window» похоже на тартарары, трубу или медный тазик — смотря куда летят или чем накрываются ожидания.

До чаек дело пока не дошло, но абсурда в банке и без них хватает:

Freeboys. [...] You, Warren, are an intern.

Warren. But I’m sixty-seven.

Freeboys. You’re an experienced intern. [...] Now get those staff rotas up on the noticeboard.

He places his mug on top of the pile of papers and exits up to his office.

Warren. Yes, sir, Mr Freeboys.

He takes the papers over to the noticeboard and attempts to pin some of the staff rotas up from the bottom of his pile. Robber 1 enters, comes over to Warren and points his gun.

Robber 1. Hey! Stick ’em up!

Warren. I’m trying Mr Freeboys.

Robber 1. I mean put ’em where I can see ’em!

Warren. Of course I will, Mr Freeboys, that’s the whole point of a noticeboard.

Robber 1. No, ya punk! Give me everything you got.

Warren. Okay, here you go.

He gives Robber 1 all the papers.

Robber 1. No! No! Listen to me. I want all the cash from the vault brought up here in unmarked bags, you understand?

Warren. You’re the boss, Mr Freeboys.

Так вот почему Уоррен в свои шестьдесят семь всё ещё интерн — он панк! В смысле, такой тупица, что грабителя от босса отличить не может. Там вообще все значения «punk» как будто для него придумали: простофиля; неопытный юнец; никчёмный человек; молокосос; пустое место; начинающий цирковой артист; девица лёгкого поведения; плодовое тело дереворазрушающего гриба. Ну, почти все.

А «stick ’em up!» — это классическое «руки вверх!», но Уоррен и его не узнал.

Стоит выглянуть в адское пекло за окном, и сразу понятно, что такое «made in the shade». Не ссы, Купер, всё на мази и в шоколаде. Подумаешь, украсть из банка огромный бриллиант прямо под носом у полиции. Как два пальца об лимон, ну.
