Top 3 weird reasons for flight delays A seal blocked the runway in Alaska in 2017. Experts were called and they used a sleigh to remove it. 500 turtles blocked a runway at JFK airport in New York in 2016 - the Port Authority of New York reported that over 500 turtles had to be carried to their habitat to clear runways. Experts believe the turtles see the sand surrounding the airport as a safe place to lay eggs. Unauthorised drones - right before Xmas 2018 the second busiest in airport in Britain Gatwick had to suspend flights as 2 drones were seen flying around a runway. 10,000 passengers were affected. In June 2019 a drone sighting at Singapore Changi airport caused 37 flight delays. The police and the armed forces started investigating the accident.

A rain of animals is a rare meteorological phenomenon in which flightless(нелетающих )animals fall from the sky. Such occurrences have been reported in many countries throughout history. One hypothesis is that tornadic waterspouts(смерч) sometimes pick up creatures such as fish or frogs, and carry them for up to several miles. indianexpress.com/article…-7702542

Inclement weather poses a threat for aviation safety and that's why flights are suspended.

LAHSO is an acronym for "Land and Hold Short Operations." Land and hold short operations are an air traffic control procedure intended to increase airport capacity without compromising safety. This means that, as pilot-in-command (or as an operator), several minutes of valuable time can be saved during every LAHSO landing and taxi-in. Think of the savings in fuel and operating expense - not to mention freeing up the runway for others to use, thereby increasing overall system capacity. This program, however, will work more effectively only if pilots have a clear understanding of what's expected of them. LAHSO include landing and holding short of an intersecting runway, an intersecting taxiway, or some other designated point on a runway other than an intersecting runway or taxiway.

I have come across a lot of situations when Russian-speaking students use the term "small aviation" or "light aviation". Both of them are not correct. "General Aviation" is the term. General aviation is defined by ICAO as all civil aviation aircraft operations with the exception of commercial air transport or aerial work. General aviation thus represents the "private transport".

Most airlines/airports will define a PRM under one of the following three categories: 1. A passenger who is unable to walk long distances – A buggy (where available) or wheelchair should be provided at the airport to assist with the (sometimes) long distance to the gate. 2. A passenger who is unable to ascend stairs – A lift on/off the aircraft should be provided by use of an ambulift. Where an ambulift is unavailable, some airports are now introducing ramps to give easier wheelchair access to the aircraft and thus providing more empathy to the PRM. 3. A passenger who is completely immobile – A buggy (where available) or wheelchair should be provided to escort the passenger to the aircraft, where an ambulift will be used.

Sometimes guys apply to me after failing ICAO exam. "I have answered all the questions but I have failed". Let's consider two answers for a SELCAL question. What equipment may be necessary for transportation of disabled passengers? First answer: We need a wheelchair, an ambulift and stretchers for transportation of disabled passengers. Second answer: Sometimes we deal with transportation of disabled passengers. If a person cannot walk, a wheelchair is used. They are available almost at all airports. If there is no airbridge, ambulance lift(ambulift) has to be used for the easy planing and deplaning of passengers who are incapacitated, passengers with reduced mobility or disabled air-travellers, mainly people using wheelchairs or elderly people with difficulties in climbing stairs. In accordance with the rules, wheelchair passengers board the plane first and deplane the last. And of course if a passenger is bedridden or he sustained a major injury, he may be transported with the help of stretchers.

ENCOUNTER is used without a preposition. The crew encountered an avalanche of problems during the flight. They encountered a flock of birds on final approach.

Have you known that the word "EASILY" means not only "without difficulty" (легко) but "without doubt" (бесспорно) as well. Let's consider some examples. Airbus is easily one of the most sophisticated planes nowadays. It is easily the worst airline I have ever flown with.

Air travel is considered by many to be safer than going by a car or a train, but that doesn’t mean airline passengers don’t sustain injuries. For example, according to FAA 58 people sustain injuries (including brain concussion) due to turbulence every year. Other people are injured from improperly-stowed baggage falling from overhead bins.

I can't stress it enough for my students - enlarge your vocabulary and make use of these words in the speech. Hail can inflict a significant damage to the fuselage of a plane. and vice versa Fuselage of a plane can sustain a significant damage.

Static dischargers (also known as static wicks or static discharge wicks) are installed on the trailing edges of aircraft, including ailerons, elevators, rudder, wing, horizontal and vertical stabilizer tips. Fitted on almost all civilian aircraft today, they are high electrical resistance devices with a lower corona voltage than the surrounding aircraft structure. They control the corona discharge into the atmosphere. They are used on aircraft to allow the continuous satisfactory operation of onboard navigation and radio communication systems during precipitation conditions. Precipitation static is an electrical charge on an airplane caused by flying through rain, snow, ice, or dust particles. When the aircraft charge is great enough, it discharges into the surrounding air. https://youtu.be/ulK8TjUnGf8
