Tomorrow we're having our first book club meeting! I'm so excited & I'm looking forward to sharing my opinion on this story. Who's not aware - we're reading Jane Eyre for B1-B2 these days, I haven't read it even in full Russian version but I already love it and I'm in love with Victorian age aesthetic, it has some kind of charm ✨ What was the last book you've read in English?

I adore walking around the centre of Moscow! Although it’s too hot outside, there’s a special aesthetic through these oldish streets & houses – I finally passed all documents to work at HSE. I wish I could have studied here when I was graduating from school 🏫 What is your fav place in your hometown?

hackneyed /ˈhæk.nid/ -adjective • The hackneyed phrase "Have a nice day!" is heard so often that it has become almost meaningless. • The worst part of our family reunions is hearing my uncle's hackneyed jokes - the ones he's been telling since about 1950.

fledgling /ˈfledʒ.lɪŋ/ -adjective ▫️The short-story class is full of fledgling writers. They're all enthusiastic, but since they're beginners, they're shy about sharing their work. ▫️Myra and her sisters are excited about their fledgling catering service, which was booked for three parties during its first week of business.

Good morning, my dearest! Let's get to know some new words & expressions in context. I'll give you a word and some examples with it and you're going to guess the meaning 💫 affinity /əˈfɪn.ə.ti/ -noun ▫️It is hard for someone with an affinity for warm weather to be happy living in Alaska. ▫️My cat has an affinity for small, dark hiding places - I've often found her asleep in my dresser drawer, under the footstool, and inside my suitcase.

Everyday Idioms 🇬🇧 Here's a portion of idioms that everyone should know - you can use them in everyday life ✨ ▫️Under the weather [To feel ill] In England they love to talk about the weather, but don’t be fooled by this common phrase. If someone says they’re feeling under the weather, your response should be ‘I hope you feel better!’, not ‘Would you like to borrow my umbrella?’ ▫️The ball is in your court [It’s up to you] It’s your move now, but this idiom refers to life rather than a sport. If you’ve got the ‘ball,’ the decision is yours and someone is waiting for your decision. ▫️Spill the beans [To give away a secret] If you told someone about their own surprise party, you’d have ‘spilled the beans’ or even ‘let the cat out of the bag’. The secret is out. ▫️Pull someone’s leg [To play a practical joke] This is the perfect phrase to learn if you’re a fan of practical jokes. ‘Pull their leg’ is similar to ‘wind someone up’. Use it in context: ‘Relax, I’m just pulling your leg!’ or ‘Wait, are you pulling my leg?’. ▫️Sat on the fence [To be undecided] If you’re sat on the fence, you’ve not decided which side of an argument you agree with. ‘I’m on the fence about hot yoga classes,’ translates as ‘I’m not sure whether I enjoy yoga in a sauna yet.’ ▫️Take it with a pinch of salt [Don’t take it too seriously] ‘I heard that elephants can fly now, but Sam often makes up stories so I take everything he says with a pinch of salt.’ Try to make up your own examples with these idioms in the comments to remember them better 💫

Actually I'm so into watching series, sometimes, I think it can be even some kind of obsession, but! What I love more is watching bloopers [неудачные дубли] of my fav series! This is one of them and I decided to find all phrasal verbs & useful expressions used there: ▫️run smb with a car [сбить кого-то на машине] ▫️get message across [донести мысль] ▫️give authority back [вернуть власть] ▫️dug smth out [откопать что-то] ▫️deal with things [разобраться с делами] ▫️be in character [вжиться в роль] ▫️break character [когда актёр выходит из роли и становится самим собой]

Guilty pleasure is something, such as a film, television programme, or piece of music, that a person enjoys despite feeling that it is not generally held in high regard. For example, I can say that I enjoy watching some of Russian movies with stupid jokes or reality shows like “Pregnant at 16” – it’s my guilty pleasure 😅 What about your guilty pleasure?
