Today we look at a short (but rich in vocabulary) text that accompanied a BBC video released in August 2018 on deteriorating US-China trade relations.

Прежде чем приступить к чтению текста, изучи ключевые слова и фразы, а также послушай как они произносятся в аудиосообщении ниже:
⚪️ to deteriorate /dɪˈtɪərɪəˌreɪt/ = to become worse = ухудшаться, портиться
⚪️ trade = the activity of buying, selling, or exchanging goods or services between people, firms, or countries = торговый оборот
⚪️ a dispute /dɪsˈpjuːt/ = an argument or disagreement between people or groups = конфликт, спор, диспут
⚪️ at loggerheads /æt ˈlɒɡəˌhɛdz/ = in disagreement, engaged in dispute = иметь значительные разногласия
⚪️ a tariff /ˈtærɪf/ = a tax that a government collects on goods coming into a country = пошлина, таможенный тариф
⚪️ goods /gʊdz/ = things that are made to be sold = товары, продукция
❗️ Это слово употребляется только во множественном числе, нельзя сказать ‘a good’.

⚪️ to impose /ɪmˈpoʊz/ (to impose something on something/ somebody) = if you impose something on people, you use your authority to force them to accept it.

⚪️ to come into effect ~ to take effect = If a law or policy takes effect or comes into effect at a particular time, it officially begins to apply or be valid from that time = вступить в силу
⚪️ bullish /ˈbʊlɪʃ/ = cheerful and optimistic = оптимистичный, уверенный

Why the US-China trade dispute has experts worried
The world's two biggest economies are at loggerheads.
The US is considering 25% tariffs on $200bn (£152bn) of Chinese goods, much higher than the 10% it previously indicated it might impose, reports say.
Meanwhile China has already retaliated, after US tariffs on $34bn of Chinese goods came into effect last month.
"If someone wants a trade war," China's commerce minister has said, "we will fight to the end."
President Trump is bullish, threatening further tariffs and tweeting: "Trade wars are good, and easy to win."
