I would be living and breathing the questions because no point focusing on the answers if you do not understand the question correctly Asking your teacher for ways to ask to repeat themselves. In interviews often you do not know the answer but if you need more time to think you could ask them to just repeat the question again. To make the awkwardness of the question silence go away.
