Hedge fund giant Renaissance Technologies, which manages about $166 billion in regulatory assets, is ready to venture into Bitcoin (BTC) futures.
In a new filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Renaissance reveals it has green-lighted its $10-billion flagship Medallion fund to enter the Bitcoin futures market.

The Maker Foundation is being sued in a class-action lawsuit for $28 million over the March 12 event that caused over $2 million in liquidations. The lawsuit alleges that the team behind the Makerdao project did not explain the extreme risk of loss to investors.
The court document was filed by an investor named Peter Johnson who alleges he had 1713.7 ETH collateral locked into a Makerdao loan.
The court filing notes that Johnson wants roughly $8.2 million for three charges and about $20 million for punitive and treble damages. After Johnson lost more than $200,000 worth of ETH, he claims that the Makerdao’s actions were “intentional and fraudulent.”
The Russian Ministry of Communications has added Waves Enterprise to the Unified Register of Russian Software for Computers and Databases.
Waves Enterprise was added to the list and described as a “cloud-based distributed ledger service and service for virtualization and storage of data.”
The list is meant to ensure high information security standards for authorities by suggesting information technology products for use in Russian government bodies.
Google recently removed 49 phishing Google Chrome web browser extensions after receiving reports about their activity.
The removed extensions include ones that targeted the owners of hardware wallets produced by Ledger, Trezor and KeepKey, and users of software wallets Jaxx, MyEtherWallet, Metamask, Exodus and Electrum.
The extensions triggered the users to enter the credentials needed to access the wallet — such as mnemonic phrases, private keys and keystore files — and sent them to bad actors. Hackers were then able to steal the crypto assets contained in the wallets.
International regulators have asked central banks to ban stablecoins. Both decentralized and centralized fiat-pegged coins are coming under scrutiny, based on recommendations from the Financial Stability Board.
The FSB is an international entity that provides suggestions on the global financial system. It comprises central banks and finance ministries from major G20 economies.
The recommendations are to be presented before an audience of G20 countries, and reference major stablecoins, including USDT, USDC, TUSD, PAX, and DAI.
Interest in the forthcoming “halving” event on the Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain has surged to levels higher than ever seen before.
Data from Google Trends as of April 14 indicates that this year’s peak of interest in the event is 16% higher than back in 2016, the last time that halving occurred on the network.
The top five countries showing the most interest are Luxembourg, Latvia, Estonia, Switzerland and Lithuania.
