We’re happy to announce the release of Silo 2022.3, which includes several handy new primitives to help speed up your modeling workflow (Gear/Wheel, Quad Sphere, and Tri Sphere). Additionally we’ve squashed several reported bugs.
The new Gear/Wheel primitive comes with intuitive options that make it great for easily creating a huge variety of gears and wheels, but also for creating stars, towers, pipes, and more. All of these variations come with nice ready-made UV maps.
We’ve also greatly expanded the options for creating different kinds of useful spheres in the Sphere options window. In addition to Silo’s existing sphere type (now called a UV Sphere), you can choose to create a Quad Sphere (based on a spherized divided cube) or a Tri Sphere (based on a spherized divided icosahedron). Quad Spheres are great for subd box modeling, and Tri Spheres are perfect for smooth evenly-rendered spheres in a game engine.

Silo is a lightweight and lightning-fast 3D polygonal modeler and UV mapper, offering a deep, industry-grade toolset and easy-to-master workflow at an insanely affordable price. Its lightweight, focused, and portable nature have made it THE go-to pure modeler for well over a decade, either used standalone or as the perfect companion upgrade for complex all-in-one tools like Maya or Blender. It's also the perfect tool for teaching and learning 3D modeling. For 2021, we've added blend shapes, variable SubD edge creasing, PBR materials setup, and much more.
Silo and Milo (our software for Unreal-powered rendering, walkthroughs, and VR) are both standalone tools, but they work best together.
