Утром 1 августа сеть Ethereum Classic разделилась – в ней было добыто 3 693 «лишних» блока. Исследователи предполагают, что это была атака 51%, однако вредоносных транзакций выявлено не было.
Первым нестандартную ситуацию в блокчейне Ethereum Classic заметил исследователь Хадсон Джеймсон (Hudson Jameson), а чуть позднее атаку подтвердил и официальный аккаунт криптовалюты. Джеймсон призвал остановить депозиты и вывод средств на криптовалютные площадки.

По их данным, случилось следующее – крупный майнинговый пул 2Miners был выключен для проведения технических работ, и в это время один единственный майнер добыл 3 693 «лишних» блока.
☝️После этого сеть Ethereum Classic разделилась – майнеры с клиентами Parity и OpenEthereum продолжили работать в оригинальной цепочке, а майнеры Core-Geth переключились на новую цепочку с дополнительными блоками. Чуть позднее майнеры Parity также переключились на эту цепочку.
По данным аналитиков, вряд ли это было сделано намеренно, хотя и не исключают такой вероятности. Они подчеркивают, что на текущий момент не было выявлено транзакций с двойной тратой. Скорее всего, работа сети продолжится с дополнительными блоками, так как в них не обнаружено вредоносных операций.

On the morning of August 1, the Ethereum Classic network split - 3,693 "extra" blocks were mined in it. Researchers assume that this was a 51% attack, but no malicious transactions were identified.
The first non-standard situation in the Ethereum Classic blockchain was noticed by researcher Hudson Jameson, and a little later the attack was confirmed by the official cryptocurrency account. Jameson called for stopping deposits and withdrawals to cryptocurrency platforms.

☝️After that, the Ethereum Classic network split - miners with Parity and OpenEthereum clients continued to work in the original chain, and Core-Geth miners switched to a new chain with additional blocks. A little later, Parity miners also switched to this chain.
According to analysts, it is unlikely that this was done on purpose, although such a possibility is not ruled out. They emphasize that no double-spend transactions have been identified to date. Most likely, the network will continue to operate with additional blocks, since no malicious operations were detected in them.
☝️After the discovery of the problem, the Poloniex cryptocurrency exchange froze asset trading. However, other large sites, including Binance, did not freeze trading, suspending only the acceptance of deposits and the withdrawal of this cryptocurrency. Recall that at the beginning of 2019, the Ethereum Classic network was already undergoing a 51% attack.
