How to show your marketing expertise to a tech startup founder. As I said in the last post, when you sell digital marketing services to a tech startup founder you need to show your expertise to the right people at the right time. You already know how to reach out to the founder at the right time from my previous post. Let's talk about how to show expertise and why it's so important. Tech startup owners that raised $1m aren’t stupid. Moreover, they are more experienced than you, because they have a background. What background do you have in your 20-25? Founders know that most digital marketers are the same level of skills/experience. For example, as a startup founder, I know how FB ads, SEO, and Google ads work in basics. And I know that there are no 'Judies' here. I just need a person who can do it well, understand my audience and I won’t spend a lot of time explaining what a marketer needs to do. So, you need to show that: you are a responsible person you know your staff, that I'm looking for. you understand my niche. I’ll tell you a quick story about how we hired a SEO agency for our startup. I was looking for people in this field, asking other startup founders and CMO about their experience in SEO. They recommended me to an agency. The founder of this agency made a 20 min pitch talking about B2B SaaS (my niche) case studies. We just raised money and invested in SEO. Thats all. This guy showed me his expertise at the right time. Do you think he showed me magic on this pitch? Of course not. He just was adequate.
