so, last night i found out i'm allergic to cherries...
i ate a single cherry, and suddenly my tongue starts hurting, everything starts getting itchy and i notice my throat closing up. my girlfriends decide to call an ambulance for me, and not even 10 minutes later police is standing in our living room, telling us the helicopter is on the way. a couple minutes later, two paramedics come in and hook me up to various machines, put an IV in my arm and give me an adrenaline shot in my leg. at this point, things started getting better but i could still barely swallow as my throat was still closed. they decide to take me to the hospital for observation, but unfortunately they weren't taking me back by helicopter, and i went in the back of a regular ambulance instead.
about 15 minutes later, i'm in the hospital where they give me another shot of adrenaline and two shots of something against the itchiness through IV. the doctor tells me i had a severe allergic reaction, and he tells me he's referring me to another hospital to get an allergy test done, as apparently based on what i described i have a lot of food allergies. they end up prescribing me an epi-pen (adrenaline shots), and about 5 hours after eating the cherry i'm back at home again.
this was the first time ive had to call any type of emergency services in my whole life, and im incredibly surprised by how fast they were. next time im feeling like eating some cherries, i can rest assured knowing that the paramedics will be with me in no time :3
