Last day in telecoms Rostelecom (Russia) completed the rollout of a public Wi-Fi network at Yugra State University in Khanty-Mansinsk, Yugra region, with around 75 hotspots established. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity within the university premises. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has adopted more flexible rules for the 60 GHz spectrum band to boost radar technology applications. The new regulations will allow unlicensed radar devices to operate without affecting other users. The FCC also approved a proposal to partially open the 12 GHz band for wireless services, preserving the 12.2-12.7 GHz segment for existing satellite services. The upper range (12.7-13.25 GHz) will potentially be available for terrestrial wireless use, such as 6G. Meta is partnering with the Linux Foundation for an open-source project named LF Connectivity. The project will work on accelerating network and connectivity applications with open-source tools to improve performance and experience. Portugal’s National Communications Authority (Anacom) signed a revised agreement with the Armed Forces General Staff (EMGFA), rearranging the 26 GHz band for advancing 5G technology. This revision includes transferring 650 MHz to civilian management, increasing civilian spectrum to a total of 2400 MHz. According to Arcep, French telecom regulator, the growth rate in French mobile connections dropped to 1.8% in the three months leading to March. This decline is largely attributed to a drop in consumer postpaid subscriptions and an increased loss in prepaid connections.
