The Brain has the Power of Neurogenesis, i. e., the Formation of New Neurons. This mainly occurs during intrauterine development and up to the first months of life. However, in the first three years of life, it forms the maximum number of synapses. According to some studies, a three-year-old baby has about a million billion contacts in the brain: each neuron makes contact with the other at least 15,000 times. As an adult, about half of these connections are retained. Such a highly curious choice of evolution: instead of accumulating connections, it preferred to create their surplus in order to quietly sacrifice the extra ones later. • This process is called synaptic pruning.
