Hydropericardium This term refers to the accumulation of transudate (non-inflammatory fluid) in the pericardial cavity. Normally there is a small amount of lubricant (about 30 ml) between the leaflets of the pericardial sac, which is necessary for normal heart function. Look carefully at the scan, the heart shouldn’t be that large. In this case it is excessive fluid.
