The heart starts beating as early as day 22 of intrauterine development At that point, the heart is called a blood tube, or more accurately, a bend in the blood tube. And by the end of the 6th week, the heart increases in volume and from a one-chambered to a two-chambered. And during the next two months, the familiar four-chambered heart begins to form.
