This was assumed as it has only one H antigen, found in other blood groups. Still, incompatibility in transfusions of this blood group with others was still observed, just rarely enough. In the past doctors were willing to take this risk, but now it’s considered unacceptable. However, A-negative is still used as a universal blood group in emergency situations.
