Why denuclearisation would be a disaster for world security? The history of human beings is the history of eternal wars - from Ramses and Caesar to general Ludendorf and führer Hitler. It makes the nasty statement, that war is like people and has a right to exist. We always have to fight for resources and our security. Marx believed that economic development and fair distribution of goods would solve the problem. Fukuyama tried to persuade society that the End of History would come when liberal values and a democratic system dominate the world. These two people with extremely different views were the prophets of the end-state that will never exist. History is a process without any end-state. Nothing is forever and nothing is the conclusion. But we still have bus stops that may prevent bigger disasters. People were killing each other and every next century was crueler than the previous. Even the peaceful nineteenth century was the time when dozens of millions died in various conflicts. There would be more, but the technology was not developed enough. The first half of the XX century is the time when just three wars (two World Wars and a Civil War in Russia) had a 9-figure number of casualties, more than at any time before. There would be the third one, but a miracle with a scary face has come: nuclear weapons. When President Truman decided to use the new weapons against Japan it was mostly a demonstration for the Soviets: we have something that you should keep in mind. Such weapons on one hand were a real threat because they could be easily used against any opponent without the ability to respond significantly. Fortunately (yes, fortunately), the Soviets invented their nukes in 1949 and it was the guarantee of peace. The Cold War could become a Third World Suicidal War because the price of the victory has become bigger than any victorious benefits. Today there are 9 countries with nukes: Russia, the USA, the UK, France, China, India, Pakistan, Israel, and North Korea. And they have never fought one another. The world has not become more peaceful, but it is a safer place. People still die in Ukraine but this war remains a local one. Most Europeans participate in it only in media, it is still the image on the smartphone. We should remember that this is a bus stop. And today’s aggression may become a prologue for opening Pandora’s box. It must be in the interest of society and all political forces for the bus to go to the right place. Until then nukes are the only thing that prevents us from global genocide. #war #peace
