The simple present tense uses the same verb form as the root form of the verb. We use the simple present tense in the following conditions:
• To show a fact or something that is always true. Ex. This summer was the hottest summer of all.
• For activities that are done daily -regularly or habituallyEx. I usually wake up at 8 am.
• To express thoughts, feelings, opinions and beliefsEx. Socrates knows only that he knows nothing.
• For an action or event that is planned to happen in the futureEx. When does the flight to Egypt depart from Tashkent?
• Used with a selected few adverbs to indicate something that happens rarelyEx. I rarely skip my classes.
• Used in news, reported speech such as in sports commentaries, a narration of books and stories etc.Ex. GOAL! Leo Messi scores another goal.
• It is also used with schedules, plans and programmes. Ex. My exams are in May.
• It is also used to give instructions.Ex. If you want to be an A student, you need to study harder.
