Кладбище. Ночь. Туман. В воздухе витает недоброе. Из могил поднимаются вилисы. Каждого, кто придёт сюда в этот час, они заставят танцевать до смерти. Вилисы – души умерших до замужества девушек. Возраст бракосочетания в ту пору был весьма невеликим, 15-17 лет, как правило. Умереть в этом возрасте от естественных причин сложно, поэтому у каждой вилисы есть свой персональный «благодетель», поспособствовавший её смерти или ставший причиной самоубийства из-за несчастной любви. Две вещи управляют их загробной жизнью – тяжесть совершенных ими грехов (безгрешных душ среди них нет, все безгрешные уже в Раю) и желание отомстить обидчику. Воля вилис подавлена их предводительницей, Миртой, поэтому им сложно в полной мере осознать эти две силы. Мир вилис – это романтическая, весьма далекая от католического богословия или поэмы Данте, аллегория чистилища, преддверия Рая, в котором грешная душа может искупить свои земные грехи ценой особого рода страданий, и тогда её пускают в Рай, но может и не искупить по своей лени, гордыни или еще какой слабости, и тогда она отправляется в ад как отвергнутая. Души вилис всецело подчинены Мирте, они со временем все больше и больше теряют человеческие чувства, превращаясь в инструменты мщения и как только становятся такими инструментами, продолжениями рук своей хозяйки, потеряв остатки человеческой воли, они проваливаются в ад. В таком-то вот мире и появляется наша Жизель. Первый выход - и зритель уже понимает, что это больше не полная жизни девочка, излучающая радость - она лишь бестелесный дух, всецело подчинённый воле Мирты. The souls of the wilis are completely subordinate to Myrtha, over time they lose their human feelings more and more, turning into instruments of revenge, and as soon as they become emotionless tools, extensions of the hands of their mistress, having lost the remnants of human will, they fall into Hell. It is in such a world that our Giselle appears. The first entrance - and the viewer already understands this is no longer a girl full of life, radiating joy, but only a disembodied spirit, completely subordinate to the will of Myrtha. More in video
